Sure, there are plenty of amazing combo videos out there showcasing Dante's insane combat prowess when making use of this system, but I would have much rather seen Capcom incorporate Dante's core Style abilities into his DMC5 control scheme without the use of a switch system.Ĭonsider Nero, for example. The problem with this change, however, was that switching Styles was a somewhat clunky experience, and the implementation felt like a lazy way to include Dante in DMC4 without making many changes to his inputs. This change gave you Dante's full, extremely powerful list of moves to use with just a few button presses, which was a radical improvement over the DMC3's system. Devil May Cry 4 gave Dante the ability to switch between Styles on the fly during combat. In DMC3, you could only switch between Styles at shops or between missions, forcing you to commit to one during play. You had four main Styles to choose from: Swordmaster (which gave you new melee attacks) Gunslinger (enhanced your gun potency and added projectile attacks) Trickster (an evasion and movement-focused Style) and Royalguard (which specialized in counterattacks and parries). The Style system expanded Dante's DMC3 abilities, while also letting you develop a unique play style. I'll start with a controversial statement: Capcom needs to kill Dante's Style switching. The most obvious change is the new graphics style. In fact, the trailer gives us a lot to dissect. Fans can rejoice in knowing that Nero and Dante return to demon-slaying action, and with it comes amazing, combo-centric brawling that's reminiscent of DMC3 and DMC4's fighting systems (at least according to the reveal trailer).
