The expansion has several modules to it, and while many of the new tiles and the borders could probably wait until you've played through the vanilla game a few times, I'd recommend adding the new goals and the bonuses/challenges right from the beginning, as they are easy to understand and do nothing but add to the game. Residential strategies tend to be a bit weaker in the base game and the expansion seemed to bring them up to par, depending on what tiles you include in a given game. I prefer Suburbia, while my friend prefers CoMKL, but we really like both of them. Both games are excellent, and they both play well with 3p. Use hex-shaped building tiles to add residential, commercial, civic, and industrial areas, as well as special points of interest that provide benefits and take advantage of the resources of nearby boroughs. Some people have liked the expansion, but I think it fundamentally changes the game, and I tend to prefer expansions that give you more of the same or add some new options without transforming the game into something new.ĮDIT: As an additional thought, if you're looking for a tile-laying game that is best with three players, you might want to also consider Suburbia's younger brother, Castles of Mad King Ludwig. Plan, build, and develop your small borough into a major metropolis. I also have no interest in playing Suburbia with 5 players (I think it works well with 4, but any more would result in a lot of down time). To me, that would water down the tileset so much as to be unenjoyable.
